Dental Care

Good dental health is essential to your cat’s overall wellbeing. Our veterinarians perform all dental procedures, from routine cleanings to more involved work requiring extractions. They will evaluate your cat’s teeth and provide a clear estimate before any procedure begins.

Untreated tooth or gum disease allows bacteria to enter the bloodstream, where it can affect the heart and kidneys. Regular professional cleanings are the most effective way to prevent these complications. The Cat Hospital of Durham and Chapel Hill requires bloodwork before every dental procedure to confirm your cat can safely undergo anesthesia, and we use digital dental x-rays to evaluate what cannot be seen with the naked eye.

On procedure days your cat is dropped off in the morning and stays with us through recovery. Each patient is carefully monitored throughout by both the veterinarian and a veterinary assistant. A member of our staff will call you after the procedure to let you know how things went. Your cat’s comfort and safety are our first priority from the moment they arrive until the moment they go home.
